St. Paul, Minnesota 1885 Ward Descriptions


The following description of the St. Paul, Minnesota ward boundaries in 1885 has been transcribed from R. L. Polk & Co.'s 1885-6 St. Paul City Directory.

WARDS AND BOUNDARIES
The city is divided into seven wards to-wit:
First Ward - The First Ward comprises all that portion of the city described as follows: Commencing at the Mississippi river, foot of Broadway; thence northwesterly on Broadway to Mississippi street; thence north on Mississippi and New Canada road to city limits; thence west along city limits to Sylvan; thence south on Sylvan street to Winter street; thence southeasterly on Winter and Jackson streets to the Mississippi river.
Second Ward - The Second Ward comprises all that portion of the city described as follows: Commencing at the Mississippi river, foot of Jackson street; thence northwesterly on Jackson and Winter streets to Sylvan street; thence north along Sylvan street to Minnehaha street; thence west along Minnehaha street to Park ave; thence south on Park ave to University ave; thence east along University ave to Chute street; thence south to Wabasha; thence southeast to the Mississippi river.
Third Ward - The Third Ward comprises that portion of the city described as follows: Commencing at the Mississippi river, foot of Wabasha street; thence northwest on Wabasha street to Chute street; thence north to University ave; thence west on University ave to Park ave; thence north on Park ave to Minnehaha; thence east on Minnehaha to Sylvan; thence north on Sylvan to city limits; thence west on north line of the city to Rice; thence south on Rice to Summit ave; thence southwest on Summit ave to Third; thence southeast on Third to Exchange; thence southwest on Exchange street to Eagle street; thence southeast on Eagle street to the Mississippi river.
Fourth Ward - The Fourth Ward comprises all that portion of the city lying west of the Third Ward.
Fifth Ward - The Fifth Ward comprises all that portion of the city lying east of the First and Second Wards, north and east of the Mississippi river.
Sixth Ward - The Sixth Ward comprises all that portion of the city lying south of the Mississippi river.
Seventh Ward - The Seventh Ward comprises all that portion of the city lying north, west and south of the Fourth Ward.
