BURGLAR'S CLEAN SWEEP
LOOTS A HOUSE AND STEALS A HORSE TO CARRY BOOTY.
The burglar that robbed H. R. Gardner's home, 980 Duchess street, yesterday afternoon made a clean sweep and extended his operations to the barn in the rear, where he stole a horse and buggy in which to carry away his booty. The robbery was committed while all of the family but Mr. Gardner was absent. The identity of the robber is suspected, and the police are looking for the person believed to have stolen the property.
The robber seized an opportunity when Mr. Gardner was reposing in the front part of the house to ransack the premises. He went through the bedrooms, helping himself to clothing and other valuables that he could find. In a bureau drawer he appropriated $50 in cash, while from a closet he took a dress suit of clothes, an overcoat valued at $20, a blue serge suit and a Prince Albert coat.
Apparently having gathered up more booty than he could conveniently carry, the robber went to the barn, hitched up Mr. Gardner's blooded pacer, valued at $1,500, and drove away. The robbery was discovered shortly before 6 o'clock, when the police were notifed and given a description of the person suspected.
