MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE.

QUAIL AS STATE BIRD; PERPETUAL CLOSED SEASON PROPOSED.

The quail, otherwise know as the "Bob White," will become the state bird of Minnesota and a perpetual closed season established if a bill introduced by Senator Manley Fosseen becomes a law. The bill which was introduced today provides that any person shooting, trapping or killing the quail shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. The bill is preceded by a preamble in which it is cited that farmers lose annually $8,000,000 through the destruction of crops in the United States by insects. According to the preamble the quail destroys neither sprouting nor growing grain, but extends its foraging into the center of large fields, protecting growing crops by the destruction of noxious weeds. The bill was referred to the game and fish committee.
