DAMAGED HORSES

Cause a Suit Against the Burlington in the Federal Court.

S. Renlinger and Ben S. Thalhemier have commenced an action in the United States circuit court against the Chicago, Burlington & Northern Railroad company to recover $4,450 damages for carelessness in transporting six cars of horses from Minneapolis to St. Louis. It is claimed the horses were kept in the cars for more than thirty-six hours without unloading them for rest, water or food, and that the company did not run the cars through as fast freight, but attached them to a local freight train. Through the negligence of the railroad company and its failure to comply with the terms of shipping contract, three horses worth $100 each and six colts worth $25 each were killed and fifty-four of the animals had their tails and manes eaten off through hunger and others depreciated in value while in the cars.
