DEAD PIG IS CAUSE OF THIS LAW SUIT
F. L. Wills Alleges That Swift & Co.'s Negligence Caused Scalding.
Because a dressed hog fell on him and precipitated him into a vat of boiling water which scalded him almost to death, Frank L. Wills, formerly a hog scraper in the employ of Swift & Co., wants the company to pay him the sum of $10,000.
He claims the injuries sustained by him as a result of falling into the boiling water are such that he is permanently impaired from performing manual labor, and this, together with the intense pain suffered, and the fact that he was compelled to remain in the hospital five weeks, he considers worth $10,000. Wills was employed in the hog scraping department of Swift & Co.'s plant at South St. Paul, and alleges that the accident referred to occurred Dec. 15, 1902, at which time he was working in a room filled with steam and poorly lighted. So cramped was his position, says Wills, that he was compelled to lean against one of the dressed hogs which was hanging near him, and when this hog fell it pushed him over into the vat of boiling water. Wills commenced his suit in district court yesterday.
