Drought Is On At Waldorf
Foley's Saloon Has Closed

CLOSING MAY BE ONLY TEMPORARY AS INTENT OF NEW LAW IS NOT CLEAR - MR. FOLEY CLOSES WHILE MATTER IS SIFTED.

Thos. Foley's saloon at Waldorf did not open for business yesterday morning and for once there were many thirsty ones in the metropolis of Vivian township. As one man puts it: "Many were running around with their tongues hanging out."

Whether or not this extreme drought will be permanent or only temporary will not be determined for several days. Mr. Foley's license expired with the closing hour Wednesday night.

In Mr. Foley's case a new phase of the roadhouse law enacted by the legislature just adjourned is presented, and the intention of the law as applied to his case is not plain. Mr. Foley applied for and was granted a renewal of his license before the new law took effect - before it was passed, in fact.

The law provides that saloons affected by the roadhouse bill, which prohibits the granting of saloon licenses outside of incorporated places, are allowed to continue in business until the expiration of their licenses. Whether this will apply to Mr. Foley's old license or to his new one is just now the much-mooted question which likely will be put up to the Attorney General to decide.
