LOSES MONEY, MIND AND HER LIFE
Mrs. Michael Riley is Brought Back Dead From Asylum.
Seven years of continuous misfortune and suffering closed yesterday in the burial of Mrs. Michael Riley from St. Joseph's Catholic church. Mrs. Riley died Tuesday at the Rochester asylum, after two days stay in that institution, of which her husband is also an inmate.
In 1896 the Rileys were prosperous grocers, conducting a store at Western avenue and Carroll street. Their savings of many years were carried away in the bank failures that followed the panic. The loss preyed so heavily on Mrs. Riley that her mind became unbalanced and for many months she was confined to St. Joseph's hospital.
Soon after his wife's recovery Riley's reason gave way and for several years he has been mentally affected. Mrs. Riley supported herself and husband up to a few weeks ago, when Riley's condition became so alarming that it was found necessary to commit him to the Rochester asylum.
In less than two weeks Mrs. Riley followed her husband to the Rochester institution. Her reason had again failed and friends of the family thought it advisable to have her committed to an asylum where she would receive proper treatment.
Two days after her commitment Mrs. Riley died. Her husband, attended by a nurse, was present yesterday at Mrs. Riley's funeral.
