DODGED FRASER'S FIRE
TWO MEN UNDER ARREST FOR ROBBING FLOAN & LEVEROOS.
|
With the description of the two young men who tried to steal a telescope grip full of clothes from Floan & Leveroos' clothing store, Seventh and Sibley streets, Saturday afternoon, fresh in his mind, Patrolman Fraser accosted a couple of strangers at Eighth and Robert streets yesterday afternoon, because they tallied with the description of the alleged thieves. After a few questions one of the young fellows tried to escape. He ran two blocks down Eighth street, with Officer Fraser in pursuit, firing he revolver as he went. The fugitive was captured and taken to the patrol box. While here his companion tried to induce Officer Fraser to let him go, and was also arrested. At the central station it is alleged the clerks from the clothing store identified the prisoners as the suspected shoplifters. The prisoners gave the names of Edward Sanford and George Miller. The trick tried at the clothing store was cleverly conceived. Carrying a big telescope grip, bound up in straps, the two men entered the store, and while one talked to the clerks the other lifted a false opening in the grip and stowed away $42 worth of clothing. They became frightened and left without the grip, afterward sending a messenger boy for it. |
