A NEIGHBORHOOD QUARREL.
Is Aired Before Acting Mayor Ehrmanntraut.
|
Patrolman William O'Neill, who was charged by Gustave Witte, a neighbor of his, with applying abusive language to Mrs. Witte and threatening to kill her, had a hearing yesterday afternoon before Acting Mayor Ehrmanntraut. Mr. and Mrs. Witte and their neighbors in Reid court, where all the parties reside, gave testimony. The evidence indicated that the residents of Reid court do not all dwell together in harmony. Even when the men folks are away, the women have been known to say mean things to and about each other. One witness testified that Policeman O'Neill had pulled the ears of some small boys who trespassed on his premises. Mrs. Witte said that once upon a time, not long ago, Officer O'Neill went into her cellar, and that immediately afterwards she heard some pistol shots. Subsequently Mrs. Witte found two bullet holes in her wash board, which was kept in the cellar. Acting Mayor Ehrmanntraut came to the conclusion that the whole matter was nothing more serious than a neighborhood quarrel, and accordingly dismissed the charge against Officer O'Neill. |
