BRAKES WERE BAD.

Very Lively Scenes in West St. Paul Were the Result.

An Electric Car's Escape Causes Several Disastrous Runaways.

Car No. 364 on the South Wabasha street line, in charge of Motoneer R. L. Mussen, caused considerable excitement yesterday morning. While going down the steep decline on the west side of the bridge the brakes would not work, and the car fairly flew along the track. A sprinkling wagon near the end of the bridge was struck by the car, and the team attached to it ran away. The runaway team and car started half a dozen other runaways, and for a few moments things were exceedingly lively. Frank La Rose, a fifteen-year-old boy, was thrown from a wagon and severely injured. He was taken to his home, at Wood and Livingstone streets. G. W. Anderson, who lives at 69 Hotel Barteau, and Otto Dierish, of South St. Paul, were injured, but not seriously. The motoneer claims the sprinkling wagon made the tracks so wet that the brakes refused to work.
