THIRSTY MAN ATTEMPTS TO WRECK A BARROOM

A huge cobblestone hurled through a large mirror behind the bar in the saloon of Tiroux Brothers, 311 Twentieth avenue N, cause a small riot last night, and after Lieutenant Nicholas Smith and half a dozen policemen from the North Side station had responded to a call for aid, Michael Stayer, whom Harry Johnson, bartender, accused of hurling the big stone, was arrested on a charge of wilful destruction of property. Johnson declared that Stayer, after vainly trying to buy a drink on credit, walked out into the street, returned with the cobblestone and sent it crashing through the mirror. The damage was estimated at $100. Stayer pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct when arraigned in municipal court, and was sentenced to thirty days in the workhouse. He was put on probation for a year.
