THE ROOKERY SURPRISED. Unwonted Scenes at the Old Court House Today. The old court house was thronged this morning with lawyers, officers old and new, deputies instructing and deputies learning. It was, indeed, quite a surprise party to the old rookery. Down stairs the outgoing board of county commissioners were holding their last session, a formal affair, to comply with the law. They adjourned to meet tomorrow morning as a new board, with Commissioner Erickson and Swift's chairs filled by the new men. The probate court was presided over by Judge Bailey and Judge Corrigan, the new and the old. The calendar was called to be continued case by case for tomorrow when Judge Corrigan will sit in power. Upstairs Judge Young occupied the place of honor in the big court room, calling the calendar for the last time. Tomorrow Judge Canty will succeed him. The calendar for this term of court is very heavy indeed, from eight to 12 cases being set for each day. The business started out in booming style for the new year. The county officers were all preparing to turn over their trusts tomorrow morning to the new men. |
