SOBS THANKS THROUGH TEARS Woman Grateful for Trip Arranged by Outing Society. Mrs. Hannah Erickson entered the office of the Outing association at the courthouse and seating herself, began to weep copiously. Her tears progressed down her cheeks and were absorbed in her apron as she sat rocking herself to and fro and apparently she was unable to stop crying long enough to respond to the anxious inquiries of Mrs. R. S. Smith, in charge of the office. Eventually, however, she ceased to sob and then explained she had just returned from a visit in the country which the Outing association had made possible, and was overcome with a feeling of intense gratitude to the organization's officers and had come in to tell them how much she had appreciated the outing. "I have new strength and courage to do the work which earns a living for my children. You don't know what good you do. I wish I could thank the railroad people who helped by giving me a ticket, but you will thank them for me and other women like me, who have to work hard and would never be able to get into the country without your aid." Up to July 1, Mrs. Smith stated the Outing association has sent 310 women and children out to rural districts for a week or two at a time. |
