Window Smasher Returns.

Twice Hurls Brick Through Window of Same Saloon.

Two attempts were made early yesterday to break into Oscar Gardner's saloon at Third avenue south and Second street. In both cases the would be burglar threw a brick through a plate glass window in the front of the saloon, but he was frightened away by the officer on the beat before he could enter the place.

The first attempt was made shortly after 1 o'clock, but Patrolman Blair, who was about a block away, heard the crash and reached the scene in time to see the brick thrower disappear into the Milwaukee yards. After watching the place nearly an hour, Blair went around the block to make his report to police headquarters and while he was gone the persistent burglar recrudesced from the railroad yards and put another window out of commission. When Blair put in an appearance again the man had disappeared for good.
