WOULD IMPROVE COLUMBIA PARK

NORTHEASTERN IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION DISCUSSES MANY MATTERS WHICH WILL WORK FOR IMPROVEMENT OF THAT PART OF CITY WHEN CARRIED OUT.

An important meeting of the executive committee of the Northeastern Improvement association was held last evening at the residence of Dr. C. A. Kelsey, and much business relative to that section of the city was transacted.

The proposed improvement of Columbia Park on Sandy Lake was taken up. The citizens of that part of the city feel that they are entitled to a park that will compare favorably with any in Minneapolis, being situated in such a manner that a long street car ride is now necessary if they wish to go to any of the others.

They also desired that a branch post-office be established, and one of those present said that he knew of a person who would donate the site on Central avenue, provided an appropriation from congress can be secured for the building within a reasonable time, and said further that it was possible that such an appropriation could be secured.

G. Larson was of the opinion that a committee should be appointed to call upon the mayor with a view to seeing if two mounted policemen could be secured to patrol the East Side district. At the present time that section is almost without protection and as it is becoming thickly populated, the committee acted favorably upon his motion. Mr. Larson also brought up the question of having a health inspector appointed.

The raising of the sidewalks at Monroe and Twenty-fifth street was brought up, and it was decided to send a resolution to the aldermen of the Ninth ward, calling their attention to their condition.

The last subject that came up for consideration was that of securing another street car line east of Central avenue, and a committee was appointed to confer with the Street Railway company in order to ascertain if they were contemplating putting in an additional line and to impress upon them the necessity of having the matter attended to immediately.
