Death of P. J. Callan. Yesterday morning at 9 o'clock Deputy Sheriff P. J. Callan died at the residence of John Grace, Esq. The deceased fell a victim to the dire and quick inroads of consumption. His sickness has been of short duration, but much of his suffering has been alleviated by the watchful care of friends. Young Callan was only 27 years old, and was a young man of sterling worth and ability. His was a nature which endeared him to friends, and secured him the esteem of all with whom officially or socially he was brought in contact. He served as deputy sheriff under Major Becht's administration, and was lately replaced in office by Sheriff King. In his last moments he was tenderly cared for by a sister, and his numerous friends shared with her, watchful hours at his bedside, and sorrow with her at his untimely demise. Notice of the time of his funeral will be given hereafter. |
