SLUGGED. And Robbed By Box Car Friends Is the Fate of Otto Grosse. Men Were Beating Their Way From Harvest Fields - Police Are After Robbers. Otto Grosse, a harvest hand who came in from North Dakota in a box car last night, was set upon by two of his traveling companions soon after they got off the train late last night, at Twenty-fourth avenue SW, near Como, and after being beaten into sensibility all his money, amounting to $20, was taken from him. He was beating his way to Minneapolis and had stowed himself away in a Great Northern box car. At Fargo another man entered the car and a third passenger jumped on at Staples. The two newcomers seemed to make friends at once and they were also friendly towards Grosse. The three left the train and were walking down Twenty-fourth avenue towards the city. One of the men had picked up a coupling pin and was carrying it in his hand. Suddenly, without warning, he knocked Grosse a viscious blow on the head, and the latter went down like a shot. He was found unconscious by a farmer who happened to pass by a little later and the East side police station was notified. The man was taken to the station, recovering consciousness on his way there. He is not seriously hurt and will recover. He told the police of the assault and robbery and was able to give a good description of the men. Detectives are now on the look-out for them. |
